The Franklin Montessori School
Established in 2002, the Franklin Montessori School opened its doors with 24 three to six year old students in 5,000 square feet on Connecticut Avenue in NW Washington, DC. The school was conceived by the founders of the Franklin Montessori School in Rockville (Est. 1977) and aimed to establish a Montessori preschool that could take advantage of the many opportunities offered by an urban environment.
The School's unique location, fronting on a major urban Street (Connecticut Avenue) and backing up to a national park (Rock Creek National Park), allowed the creation of a unique program mixing a traditional Montessori education, an urban, artistic environment and a strong naturalist focus. The program proved extremely appealing and in 2004, the school expanded to encompass 11,000 square feet and 140 students.
As of 2008, the Franklin Montessori School will have completed its expansion program. The School now has approximately 200 students in 19,000 square feet. It contains 6 primary classrooms, 2 two-year-old classrooms, an art studio, a 2,300 square foot indoor play space, an expanded and renovated playground and a library.
Comfortably situated on a block of Connecticut Avenue that is rich
with resources and within walking distance of Van Ness Metro, the
school offers large, fully equipped classrooms appointed with all
the details that establish the secure learning environment you seek
for your child.
